eeee, my art print from Lexie came in today! :D It’s on my wall now.

Doesn’t look too good yet, it was rolled up in a tube and it was hell to get this thing flat on my wall. BUT I LOVE IT! Oh, my babies.

Eventually I’ll re-hang it and then it’ll look good, I think.

Ooooh hooray!!

You know, when I get those things and want to hang it up right away, I roll it in the opposite direction and stick it back in the tube for a bit so it straightens out. Or lay it under a long plastic box that keeps fabric I have under my bed overnight.

This Sunday (May 19) at 3:00pm at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park, the Independent Shakespeare Company is holding a benefit show, for the purpose of raising enough funds to put on their summer season of FREE awesome intelligent accessible Shakespeare. They’ve assembled a festive picnic basket of vaudeville-themed talent, including

John C. Reilly (yes, that one) who will be headlining with the ISC’s house band the Pinchtones

The Lampshades, a comedy lounge act consisting of Kate Flannery of The Office and Scot Robinson of Anchorman

Helen Slater, film and TV actress, but in this case songstress extraordinaire

Mariachi Flor Angelina

¡Aparato! (described as “post-punk(y), socially conscious ethereal rock performed with traditional Mexican instruments” which is pretty intriguing if you ask me)

Nick Bottom and the Rude Mechanicals (the amateur theatre troupe from A Midsummer Night’s Dream) in a rendition (truly the only appropriate word) of Macbeth

assorted tumblers, tricksters and “razzle-dazzlers” (this is a family-friendly show so that can only mean so many things)

Considering this is a fundraiser, the single ticket price of $30 is really surprisingly low, and $60 for a family* is practically a bargain. Please come join in the fun – you’re not only getting fresh air, and afternoon out with your fellow citizens, and a really great show, but you’re helping to make possible one of the best things in Los Angeles, which unlike most attractions around here has at its core the principle of being freely available to all.

Episode one is available now, and will be updated once a week for the next five weeks, so GO FOR IT. As someone who hates Dickens (and I really really dislike Dickens), this adaptation makes it really enjoyable because it cuts out all the useless volumes of social commentary.

Here’s a bonus for episode three: if you ever wondered what Martin Crieff proposing to someone would sound like, you get to hear Andrew Scott do it. I swear to God, for about two minutes, it’s the same character.

It also helps that Carl Prekopp is in this and I have a steadily deeper and deeper love for that man.

Andrew is plain sexy, full stop.

Unfortunately, it’s Moriarty as a character that tends to be a problem. See, most of the time when I draw, I’m drawing characters rather than likenesses. And that’s where I’m getting tripped up. I’m not sure how Andrew, lovely, beautiful Andrew just transforms into Jim Moriarty because he really really does in such a spectacular fashion. THAT’S the real bit where this whole thing goes to muck.

I’m working on…actually, it’s a little project that’s kind of taking over and I’ve decided ‘to hell with this digital medium crap’ and going traditional! There’s something delicious about not having a short cut for your mistakes, to have to work with what you’ve got: it’s forcing me to get creative and to think on my feet. They might not look spectacular, but dudes, I’m drawing with alcohol, okay? Doesn’t get much cooler than that.

“How did it go?” Molly asked as Sherlock hung up his coat and scarf by the door. He skipped into the kitchen to wash his hands before coming to meet her in the sitting room.

Sherlock practically bounced over to kiss her hello. “It was brilliant! And as an added bonus the thief’s fall out of the window was broken by Anderson.”

Molly frowned at him but still felt a smile pull on her lips. “Poor man. But I’m glad you caught him in the end.”

Sherlock continued to grin. “Most exhilarating.” He leaned down then, carefully running his fingers through the hair inside the soft bundle Molly held in her arms. He placed a small kiss on the small forehead, causing the baby to open its eyes to look directly at him. Small fingers wrapped around Sherlock’s large one and he smiled.

“You were right, by the way. It was the vanity mirror,” he told Molly as he glanced up at her.

Molly beamed proudly, glad that hours of pursuing through crime scene photos had paid off.

“Do you see how clever your Mummy is?” Sherlock said to the child, smirking as Molly leaned closer and kissed his cheek.

“And do you see that I was right? Daddy’s a hero.”

Any challenge is good, really, but it depends on who you are. Drop into google “deviant art challenge” and you’ll see a list. Browse through and pick one. But once you’ve started, really really try to finish.
